Get to Know Our Story in the Accounting Field

The story of Hagen CPA, LLC starts in 1975. This is the year David A. Hagen, CPA graduated from UW-Whitewater with his BA in accounting. He started his career at Walsh & Wolter, CPA, as a staff accountant, and he also worked as a controller and Vice President with McClearly, Inc. This prepared him well for a future in tax, accounting, business planning, and more. He has over 40 years of experience in the field!

In 1977, he started preparing tax returns on nights and weekends after his full-time job. Then, he completed his certified public accounting requirements in 1979, and the Wisconsin Accounting Examination Board officially recognized him as a CPA.

In 1994, David retired from McClearly In and started structuring his own firm. Along with his wife, he started learning about marketing accounting services and client relations. By the next year, David was able to hire his first employee to support this new venture. In 1998, the company grew with the addition of a staff accountant and tax professional. Then, in 1999, he created Hagen CPA, LLC as his accounting firm. Right away, he hired a second staff accountant and staff professional, and for the next 16 years, David grew his firm from a sole proprietorship into the professional accounting firm it is today. 

Also in the same year, he hired his second Staff Accountant and tax professional. Our staff now includes a team of qualified professionals who share the same mission, core values, and firm goals. In 2015, Denise Webb was named a partner in the firm. Now, Hagen CPA is the fourth largest CPA firm in Rock County, WI, with service throughout Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
